An international hotel group, InterContinental Hotel Group, with $4.627 billion revenue in 2019 and 5,656 hotels in 100 countries, is now using VeChain blockchain technology via DNV GL’s MyCare tool to issue a hotel industry-standard public health protection certificate to its guest and workers, the Guangming Daily, the official state mouthpiece of the Chinese government, has said in a report.
The certification is to ensure the security of life and prevention of the spread of diseases, especially during this COVID-19 pandemic period. The certification will convey confidence and trust and allow the hotel to welcome guests under strict protection, prevention, and control systems with the use of blockchain and other digital technologies.
Guangming Daily got the information during the 2020 World Artificial Intelligence Conference which kicked off on July 9, in Shanghai, China.
During an interview, a reporter said the Chinese municipal city, Shanghai, is building an ecological community with the help of blockchain technology. The report noted that the city has been applying blockchain technology into people’s livelihood since the beginning of this year. Several applications have been designed to improve the protection of people as well as their health and safety as the pandemic period lingers.
Thanks to the effort of a VeChain ecosystem supporter, Fatalexe, who unearthed the information.
Fatalexe noted that InterContinental Hotel Group, which has 855,915 rooms and 36,000 employees in its hotels, is officially using VeChain through MyCare app co-developed by VeChain and DNV GL.
At the moment which the spread of the pandemic seems to be under normal control in China, hotels are looking to restart operation, and they are searching for an appropriate means to ensure optimum protection of the guest and workers’ life.
A hotel in the Changning district of Shanghai, Hongqiao Hotel, recently passed the Norwegian Classification Society’s assessment. After the assessment, it was named the first inn in Shanghai with public health protection standard in the hotel industry.
During the conference, LU told reporters that blockchain technology helps improve data integrity and the credibility of businesses, and it matches the increasing consumers’ pursuit of trust. The CEO said in partnership with DNV GL, VeChain built a blockchain data service platform that helps companies ensure the safety of workers and customers from infectious diseases.
Lu concluded that based on the need of the company, the blockchain platform can be customized for R&D.
