The recent comment of the present President of the European Central Bank (ECB), Christine Lagarde has attracted a lot of reactions from the crypto community, especially Bitcoin enthusiasts and maximalists, including Anthony Pompliano.
In the video, Christine seemingly played down the innovative capability of Bitcoin (BTC) and gave the existing stablecoins a nod of acceptance. This prompted Anthony Pompliano, the Co-founder at Morgan Creek Digital and stern Bitcoin maximalist to swiftly respond by saying “Bitcoin didn’t need permission to innovate.
Christine Lagarde Plays Down Bitcoin Innovation

However, her recent remark about Bitcoin, the first and largest cryptocurrency could be a turnoff for some members of the crypto community.
In her statement, she displayed an increasing interest of ECB regarding the creation of its digital currency. She said the cryptocurrency is indeed growing on a daily basis, pointing out the need for the ECB to act fast.
What sparked outrage from the crypto community was when she acknowledged that some cryptocurrencies are really developing, stating that Bitcoin’s development is not really obvious.
Read her statement below:
“My personal conviction is that, given the development, we are seeing, not so much in the Bitcoin segment, but in the stablecoins projects and we only know of one at the moment but there are others being explored and underway at the moment – we’d better be ahead of the curve if that happens because there is clearly a demand out there that we have to respond to”
Anthony Pompliano Responds
Anthony Pompliano, the Co-founder & Partner at Morgan Creek Digital is an obvious Bitcoin maximalist that has shared many opinions in favor of the first and largest digital currency, Bitcoin.
After Christine’s seemingly derogatory statement against Bitcoin, Pompliano responded by saying that the digital currency has never solicited for permission to innovate.
He added that setting up committee or business plans for a centralized commodity will always in end in disruption.
He said, “Bitcoin didn’t need permission to innovate. No amount of committees, press conferences, or business plans are going to help those that are set to be disrupted.”
