BitMEX CEO, Arthur Hayes, does not give a damn what XRP is called, his latest statement on the digital currency has shown.
Today, BitMEX announced the trading of a new perpetual swap on the XRP token (XRPUSD) beginning from 5th February 2020.
“We at BitMEX are proud to announce that trading of a new perpetual swap on the XRP token (XRPUSD) will begin at 0400 UTC on 5 February 2020,” BitMEX announced.
Foreseeing a possible criticism from some crypto enthusiasts, Hayes said he does not care what the digital token is called since it’s worth more than zero.
He said: “Is it called Ripple, XRP, or dogshit? Who knows, who cares. It’s worth more than zero so it’s time to trade the USD pair on BitMEX. Boo-Yaka-sha!”
Several crypto experts have called XRP different names, claiming there is no difference between XRP and Ripple.
Tone Vays Calls XRP A Penny stock
The likes of Tone Vays have some discords to burry with Ripple Labs Inc., a firm Tone Vays accused of selling a scam crypto to investors. At different point Tone Vays has called XRP a penny stock, worthless and not even necessary.
During an interview with BlockTV in May 2019, Vays criticized Ripple for selling a cryptocurrency that is not decentralized.
He said: “I’m not even sure why people consider Ripple a cryptocurrency. There’s nothing decentralised about Ripple. To me Ripple is just a stock of the Ripple corporation.”
“I’m not even sure why people consider Ripple a cryptocurrency…To me Ripple is just a stock of the Ripple corporation…It is totally useless, totally irrelevant,” –Tone Vays said at that time.
Tone Vays’s condemnation of Ripple came after a columnist on Forbes raised some points regarding the centralization of XRP cryptocurrency.
The Forbes columnist who also lambasted Ripple Labs Inc. after Ryan Zagone, teh director of regulatory relations for Ripple, claimed the blockchain firm is not the creator of XRP, questioned how Ripple got an enormous stake in XRP, “over half of the available token”.
Ripple had on several occasions clarified that it did not create XRP, and that the digital currency had been in existence before Ripple Labs Inc. was created.
Ryan Zagone at some point explained that “XRP is open source and it was not created by our company, so that existed as an open source technology.”
“We didn’t create XRP…there’s not a direct connection between Ripple the company and XRP,” he said at that time.
