IOHK, the research and development company behind Cardano blockchain technology, has organized a focus group meeting in London to discuss further steps to deploy the Shelley testnet. Emurgo, Cardano Foundation, and IOHK teams together featured at the PWC workshop to discuss the strategy of the Cardano development.
Therefore, today IOHK released a video about the importance of migration from a testnet to a mainnet on the official YouTube channel of the project.
According to the video, migration to mainnet is the main task of the team at this stage of network development.
IOHK Senior Product Manager, Dynal Patel, states:
“The main objective, of course, to ensure that we have smooth migration from decentralized testnet to mainnet make sure that we can smoothly migration most taking upgrades under the testnet.”
Thus, the technical aspects of Cardano’s migration to a new infrastructure were discussed during the meeting. All members of the event were able to get feedback and share experiences.
Recall, that developers successfully activated hard fork in the blockchain of a decentralized platform at the end of February. The goal was to implement the Ouroboros Byzantine Fault Tolerant (OBFT) protocol, a new consensus algorithm. This update will be the basis for launching the Shelley mainnet.
Shelley is the first update of the Cardano blockchain since its launch more than two years ago. With the advent of the Shelley era, the Cardano blockchain becomes more decentralized.
When Developers Are Set To Launch Shelley Mainnet?
Developers cannot tell the exact date for the activation of the main Shelley network since it is preceded by a series of updates – the implementation of OBFT is part of it. For example, developers will have to launch the Shelley Haskell testnet. With the new update, the blockchain code base will be translated from the Rust into the Haskell programming language.
In early February, the head of the blockchain platform, Charles Hoskinson, said that the developers will gradually update all the platform software. According to him, this will make the Cardano blockchain more secure and eliminate the problems that users encountered during the testing phase.
Hoskinson also said he hopes to celebrate the launch of Shelly’s mainnet in Kyoto, during the cherry blossom, which is due to start this March 26th and last until April 3rd. But After a while, he deleted this tweet.

Recall, IOHK partnered with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), an international Big Four consultancy, to promote its Cardano platform. After this announcement, ADA tokens went up by almost 15% and the cryptocurrency was able to return to the top ten largest by capitalization.
Within a month, tokens became cheaper. At the press time, each ADA token is trading at the level of $ 0.050838. According to the analytical service CoinMarketCap, Cardano currently ranks 12th in terms of market capitalization.
