Following the announcement of the latest Litecoin Upgrade, founder Charlie Lee has said the blockchain project, known as the silver to Bitcoin’s gold, will soon even out with Bitcoin’s latest Core.
The Litecoin development team on Thursday, May 11, announced the release of its new major version of the Litecoin Core. Litecoin Core is the official full node client of the Litecoin project, which is used for sending, receiving and storing LTC token and for tracking transaction history.
The Litecoin Core Client is open source and regularly updated by the Litecoin development team. The latest version which is Litecoin 0.18.1 has new features included with various bug fixes and performance improvements, alongside well-updated translations.
Notable changes that distinguish the new Litecoin Core 0.18.1 from previous versions according to the development team include Mining option, Configuration option changes, Documentation, Updated RPCs, and Graphical User Interface (GUI).
The team went further to state that upgrading from older versions to the latest version 0.18.1 is not automatic, as users will have to shut down old version and install the latest version. This, according to the team, would take averagely minutes or half an hour to get it done, depending on the speed of the user device, nevertheless, old wallet versions are still supported by the new Litecoin Core.
The new Litecoin core upgrade is supported and has been extensively tested on major operating systems like Linux kernel, macOS 10.10+, Windows 7, and newer windows. The team however opined that it is important for users to always backup their “wallet.dat” file before upgrading, as this version may still contain bugs despite all the heavy tests.
Users were further adviced against using the Litecoin core upgrade on unsupported systems. The Litecoin team also urged users who encounter difficulties of any form, to contact the team by posting in the bug reporting section.
