After an earth shocking collaboration between a France based company, ENGIE Lab CRIGEN and IOTA (MIOTA) in July 2018. Today, IOTA announced that the French firm is now exploring the IOTA Tangle, an open-source permissionless distributed ledger technology.
While ENGIE Lab has been on this track since November 2017 with its participation in IOTA’s Data Marketplace initiative, IOTA Tangle was rated the first open-source distributed ledger dedicated towards powering the future of the Internet of Things (IoT).
IOTA’s (MIOTA) ENGIE Lab Partnership Focus
The partnership which was achieved through a Memorandum of Understanding between the French gas and natural energy oriented firm and IOTA, permitted the former to experiment the IOTA Tangle and run Data marketplace proof of concept.
The testing made ENGIE Lab CRIGEN (CSAI Lab) explore more IOTA use cases, opening ways for activation of open innovation initiatives with the team within the ecosystem of IOTA.
The Joint team will be working on a test to establish how much IOTA can help ENGIE’s business processes / products, which also includes Energy and other areas like smart buildings, smart cities and mobility. This will be achieved through Proofs of Concept.
Acknowledging the progress on the partnership, the Research Lab Manager for ENGIE Lab CRIGEN, Philippe Calvez said the company is in for strengthening its connection with IOTA Foundation
To bring more fruitful results, Calvez stated that while countless of works and Proofs of Concept have been achieved in the lab, ENGIE Lab is much interested in concretizing and spreading the reach innovative DLT technologies in France and beyond in a similar way to IOTA.
However, Wilfried Pimenta de Miranda, IOTA Foundation Business Development head, portrayed the alliance as one which brings much elation to their firm, adding that the teaming is being envisioned to stimulate more technology development.
Pimenta further stated that the partnership should also initiate prototyping cycle through solid and international partnership in the Power & Utilities sector.
The head of IOTA business development ended his statement saying ENGIE Lab’s far-reaching proficiency and proactiveness in exploring digital innovations and smart energy business models is surely a great asset for their ecosystem.
