Today, Target’s Twitter verified account was hacked, and nothing less than 5.8BTC was carted away from unsuspecting Twitteratti.
The hacker, promoted the tweet on Twitter, and directing crypto lovers to send few Bitcoin to receive multiple.
The tweet reads:
“We giving 5 000 Bitсoin (BTС) tо аll community! We present cryptocurrency payments for your purchases in our store, and want to celebrate this event with all users! We organize the biggest crypto-giveaway in the world! Participate in giveaway – https://m-crypto.me”
On checking the platform, there is an image simulated to indicate those who send BTC in are paid back in manifold.
Today’s Gazette checked the Bitcoin Address using this link, but discovered nothing less than 5.8BTC has been hijacked from unsuspecting cryptocurrency enthusiasts, and the wallet has performed around 120 Transactions.
Other hijacked Twitter accounts include verified account of UN Refugee Agency Serbia @UNHCRSerbia, The Body Shop @thebodyshopusa, University of Toledo Athletic Department @ToledoRockets, Official feed of the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board, United Kingdom @TheAHDB.
Some other Twitter verified accounts were also hijacked and used to confirm that BTC were sent to those who followed the hacker’s instructions. However, we were unable to capture their names before the Tweet was deleted.
This kind of crypto scam is not the first of its kind, however, it is unusual hackers promote hijacked Twitter account to reach more people.
In the past, Crypto hackers do demand from those who follow Elon Musk’s account, before the issue was solved by a renowned programmer Jackson Palmer.
Meanwhile, as at the time of writing this article, Target.com account is down.
