Although Telegram has been on the race to unveil its native token branded as Gram and its TON blockchain, it appears that the social platform is attempting to make some clarification to stay completely innocent before the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) who accused Telegram of attempting to sell a security token without a regulatory approval.
Since SEC is trying to stop Telegram from launching its token, Telegram has been looking for ways to fight the legal battle and get a win at last.
Telegram Distances from Gram Token and TON Blockchain
Yesterday, Telegram released a surprising statement on its TON Blockchain and Gram token, inferring that the messenger app may be attempting to stay away from the blockchain technology once launched.
One, inferences from the yesterday’s official clarification post indicates the messenger is distancing itself from the token it presold and generated a whopping $1.7 billion.
While it is understandable that Telegram won’t have any control over the TON blockchain owing to its decentralized nature, but saying the platform will be maintained by a third party requires further clarification.
Telegram, in its post, says it is not committed to making any development on the blockchain technology i.e. it is not going to develop any applications or features for TON in the nearest future.
“Telegram and its affiliates have not made any promises or commitments to develop any applications or features for the TON Blockchain or otherwise contribute in any way to the TON Blockchain platform after it launches.”
The messenger went on to say “In fact, it is possible that Telegram may never do so. Rather, it is Telegram’s goal and hope that the decentralized community of third-party developers and others will contribute to the TON ecosystem through the development of applications and smart contracts”.
What Telegram is surmising here is that once it finally launches the blockchain platform, it should not be held responsible for any development or underdevelopment regarding the blockchain technology. Including the updates?
What is usually known about projects like TON Blockchain is that those who create them are always behind their progress. In the case of TON, whoever wants to develop on the platform should do so. Leave Telegram out of it!
“Telegram won‘t be obligated to maintain the platform or create any apps for it. It’s possible we never will.”
Speaking with Two Voice on Gram Wallet
In the past, Telegram had published its Terms of Service for the Gram wallet, saying it would be integrated into the messenger, and also have a standalone product.
“Telegram may integrate the TON Wallet application with the Telegram Messenger service in the future to the extent permitted under applicable laws and governmental authorities,” Telegram earlier indicated in October 2019.
Now, Telegram is making it clear that it won’t be possible to get the Gram Wallet integrated into the messenger once it is launched, but it may be possible in the future. How soon?
“At the time of the anticipated launch of the TON Blockchain, Telegram’s TON Wallet application is expected to be made available solely on a stand-alone basis and will not be integrated with the Telegram Messenger service,” the new post reads.
“Telegram may integrate the TON Wallet application with the Telegram Messenger service in the future to the extent permitted under applicable laws and governmental authorities.”
