The IOTA Foundation has released version 0.1.0 of the Coordicide alphanet, which was formally planned to be unveiled on IOTA’s Rust-based node (Bee) in Q2 of 2020. This development brings IOTA closer to the vision of becoming the first decentralized Distributed Ledger Technology.
Due to the progress of the Hornet team, and the members’ cooperation with the GoShimmer team, the alphanet was launched earnestly.
As contained in a release by IOTA, GoShimmer is IOTA’s Go implementation of Coordicide. The release of Coordicide alphabet marks a germane step towards the achievement of a coordinator-free IOTA mainnet.
The features of the released Coordicide alphanet includes autopeering, which does automatic peer discovery and distance-based neighbor selection.
It also features Gossip, a network layer for receiving and sending of new transactions.
As well, the Coordicide comes with Rate control, a temporary non-mana based rate control to watch over, and limit transaction issuance
In the same line, the Coordicide come API-ready, permitting the transfer of data transactions and querying the Tangle
The efforts that led to the release of Coordicide alphanet, also resulted in building the hive.go library, which contains some core node components that are being used by Hornet and GoShimmer.
The library streamlines the development of the two projects and has the potential to speed up development on both the Coordicide alphanet and the current IOTA mainnet, significantly.
“The Hornet team has already started experimenting with the Autopeering module from GoShimmer,” IOTA states in a release.
The foundation says users will soon be giving the advantage to seamlessly connect their nodes on IOTA’s mainnet.
IOTA Foundation maintains that the responsiveness of the network is important for the dynamic environments it is presently designing where nodes have the advantage to join and become active at any time, for any period of time.
“In our tests, a fresh network of close to 200 nodes converged in less than 30 seconds,” IOTA writes.
Meanwhile, IOTA is building Snapshots, Mana, Initial FPC implementation, Tip selection, and Mana-based rate control modules in line with the foundation’s roadmap.
