IPFS, a peer-to-peer hypermedia protocol, has accused the founder of TRON and CEO of BitTorrent of stealing its “original logo”, codes, and papers, saying Justin Sun rebranded its properties in a bid to “defraud their investors with a nonsensical mishmash.”
The platform made the comment shortly after Justin announced that BitTorrent File System (BTFS) rebranded its logo.
BitTorrent said the rebrand became necessary to convey the idea and visions of BTFS in a more realistic way.
IPFS Creator Condemns Justin Sun
Juan Benet, the founder of Protocol Labs, who also doubles as the creator of IPFS, said he was saddened about Justin Sun’s action, saying “BitTorrent used to be great tech” this generation grew up to admire.
“It’s not enough to fork all our code, rebrand it and lie its theirs; copy paste random chunks of our papers, and defraud their investors with a nonsensical mishmash,” he said.
“Tron also can’t even think of an original logo,” he said, commenting further that the team behind BitTorrent were comprised of good people until it landed in a new hand.
“Such a shame to see this great name put through this kind of embarrassment.”
“…it’s not enough to fork all our code, rebrand it and lie its [sic] theirs; copy paste random chunks of our papers, and defraud their investors with a nonsensical mishmash. Tron also can’t even think of an original logo”
He, however, suggested that users of the platform move to other P2p decentralized webs like IPFS, and WebTorrent, saying BitTorrent is no longer a “legitimate p2p project.”
TRON’s Justin Sun Responds to Copycat Allegations
Responding to Juan’s claim, Justin Sun said the Hexagon shape belongs to nobody, noting that the founder needs to reexamine his ego and stop scamming his investors
“You’re a vaporware scamming your investors, Justin Sun said.
“You need to reexamine your ego bro. A shame that IPFS hasn’t delivered on filecoin system in 3 years & BTFS BTT have been running smoothly.”
Justin also struck back, saying IPFS has been copying his code for a long time, however, BitTorrent decided to keep quiet because of their belief in unity.
Udi Wertheimer, a crypto commentator, also lent his voice on the matter, saying IPFS stole its logo from a small-time artist selling his work on Adobe Stock.
