Slayer is offering a 15% discount to its users who purchase merchandise on its store using Monero (XMR). The metal music band online store had started accepting Monero last year December along with five other online stores and 45 musicians including Mariah Carey and Dolly Parton. However, the privacy based cryptocurrency payment system which was launched since last year is still going strong as Slayer is still offering its customers a discount months after the programme launched.

Buy Musical Merchandise with Monero (XMR)

The idea to utilise Monero for the purchase of musical merchandise had started budding since 2017. It was part of “Project Coral Reef,” which was the brainchild of entrepreneur Naveen Jain and Riccardo “Fluffypony” Spagni, Monero lead maintainer. The online shopping initiative allows users buy albums and merchandise at a discounted cost. Launched last year, the initiative is supported by Manhead Merchandise and Global Merchandise Services while the crypto-payment processing aspect is handled by GloBee whose CEO and founder is Spagni.

Monero (XMR) Gets Adopted to Bity ATMs

Monero (XMR) is gaining popularity beyond its privacy use and gaining adoption as well. In December, Bity put up a blog post announcing the availability of Monero at its crypto ATMs in Switzerland. Monero will be available for purchase with cash at their various crypto ATM stands located at Western Union Corner Services in Winterthur, Zurich Shopville, Lausanne, Winterthur, Basel and Crypto Valley Labs, Dammstrasse.

A Hard Fork is on The Way

Monero is a privacy-based cryptocurrency conscious individual rights. The digital currency will be embarking on its biannual upgrade for block 1788000 on the 9th of March.

According to the post on Reddit, it is expected to be a non-contentious fork with no expectation of chain splits. While the hard fork is a welcome development as there will be a lot of upgrade including a new proof of work algorithm.

Dear exchanges present in the Monero ecosystem, please take notice of our scheduled protocol upgrade of March 9:https://t.co/xqvN9Dwz56

However, there are some expected hurdles Monero will be facing as Coinhive website miner ceases operations in relation to the upcoming XMR hard fork. Also, the coming XMR hard fork will likely make mining difficult for all ASIC users.

However, despite the approaching hard fork, Monero had accomplished a lot in terms of adoption. Beyond the privacy it offers its users, Monero has a list of vendors and merchants that utilise it as a means of payment.

The cryptocurrency has managed to remain in the spotlight despite the negative rep it has received due to scams and fraud. Monero was ranked as the 6th most viewed coin on Wikipedia between December 24, 2018, and January 24, 2019, when the Monero team moved its reputation forward.
