A new App powered by the Ripple Network and the XRP Ledger, Ripay, has been confirmed as a potential tool to extend XRP adoption to Billions of people, both the banked and the unbanked across the globe.
The development was disclosed at the recently concluded PayID Hackathon where the App received the most concentrated attention from the community and was awarded the Second position.
The PayID Hackathon was a competition financially supported by Ripple, where over 360 developers participated to present different innovations to explore new use cases of XRP and PayID, the proposals submitted according to the Ripple CTO, David Schwartz, and Xpring SVP, Ethan Beard, were beyond the Judges expectations.
The Ripay programmer Kuyawata Kata elucidated that the application is decentralized and developed to facilitate cross-border transactions across the globe, he noted that the app uses the universal payment modifier, PayID, to present a compatible interface with messaging apps like Discord, Matrix, Slack, and Telegram.
Ripay enables users to make cross-border transactions within seconds with just a simple message like ‘Pay 50 to Mark’ Kata remarked.
He further went on to appreciate the PayID protocol for making this become a reality pointing out that the protocol has made payment sending of payment to external users without having to know their Ripple address possible, as the transaction now moves in form of a message within seconds.
It is important to mention that Slack as a messaging platform has over 10 million active users, while Telegram boasts of over 400 million active users, Discord and Matrix, on the other hand, has over 130 million and 10 million active users respectively, hence it suffices that the Ripple powered Ripay will support the adaptation of XRP to billions of people who use messaging apps daily.
However, the First position at the PayIDHackaton was awarded to PayID Validator, a developer tool that renders smart features for validating PayID response headers, while the third position was awarded to Unisend project, a project that links a users classic bank account with Unisend and allows the direct sending of money in form of XRP to other XRP wallets across the globe.
The Unisend project is very similar to Ripay as it also relies on PayID and does not require a long wallet address but with a simple text of ‘send $20 to Michelle.” With that message, the correspondent will receive the fund within a few second.
