Samsung had earlier made waves in the year when the tech giant announced that the new Galaxy S10 mobile series would be integrated with a blockchain wallet. This functionality is set to be rolled out to other budget phones according to news from the local media in South Korea.
According to the report, Samsung are looking to expand this feature on all phones as it looks to harness the potentials of blockchain technology. It is understood that Samsung has begun talks with top telecommunication companies around the world to develop unique blockchain-backed mobile ID Cards and integration with local fiat currencies.
This development according to Samsung chief Chae Won-Cheol would help the tech company move to the next stage of incorporating blockchain features in all its mobile devices.
“We will lower barriers to new experiences by gradually expanding the number of Galaxy models that support blockchain functions. We will also expand our service target countries after Korea, the United States, and Canada.”
Samsung has been actively exploring ways in which it can integrate blockchain options to its devices as it seeks to pull away from its competitors. it’s flagship device the S10 series was the first of its devices to include a blockchain wallet supporting BTC, ETH, COSM and ENJ.
Samsung has forged a good partnership with South Korea based blockchain firm Enjin (ENJ) with its wallet set to be integrated into the S10 series. It had also been rumoured that Samsung are mulling developing a native blockchain but there has been no official announcement.
HTC Announces Plans To Launch Budget Blockchain Mobile Device
HTC are also looking to incorporate blockchain technology on new devices with the American tech company revealing its plan to release a budget version of its blockchain smartphone. The phone which is billed to be available from Q3 would have full blockchain features including a complete Bitcoin node as well as a wallet that supports ERC-20 token swaps.
According to observers this new development would allow HTC to compete with the growing niche of mobile devices that enables blockchain functionality. HTC has fallen behind to Samsung in recent years as the South Korean company has become the highest selling Smartphone maker running on Android O.S.
This latest developments by Samsung and HTC shows that the adoption of cryptocurrencies is only a matter of time as more companies jump on its train.
