A VeChain blockchain-powered traceability Platform for Yunnan Pu’er Tea has received official endorsement from the government of Shuangjiang County during a Conference on November 13, NewsLogical can confirm.
VeChain, in partnership with Mengku Rongshi, Yunlian, and Linova, launched the traceability platform at the conference which gathered persons from the People’s Government of Lincang City, Yunnan Tea Traceability Association and Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences Tea Department, among others.
Mengku Rongshi and Linova, two top tea producers, opted for VeChain’s solution to abide by the traceability standard on product, as put in place by the Chinese Central Government.
The VeChain ToolChain powered solution is designed to help tackle the age-long and multi-billion dollar counterfeit problem by offering a transparent and trustworthy tea trade platform that is profitable for producers and customers.
Pu’er Tea Traceability Platform is among the maiden third-party platforms indexed into the National Important Products Traceability System, and the Mengku Rongshi’s 200,000 tea bricks will be the first sets to be introduced into the tracking platform.
Teas transferred to the platform will have unique QR codes or NFC chips that come with a solitary smart ID. Via IoT devices, all information regarding the lifecycle of a tea brick from the raw material to end-user stage will be recorded on VeChainThor Blockchain.
Henceforth, customers will only need to scan the QR code or NFC tag using their smartphone to obtain all data about the product.
A representative of the Department of Commerce, Yunnan Province, Mr. Lu Xiutian, who was at the conference, said that in line with the objective of Yunnan to provide locals with standard food, the tea traceability platform is of great significance to the development of the province.
“We should attach great significance to this tea traceability platform, sparing no efforts to ensure every tea brick has traceable origin, verified proper distribution and logistics, and authentic qualification, which can certainly raise the reputation of Yunnan tea globally,” Mr. Lu said.
The CBO at VeChain, Mr. Qian Chengcheng said the Yunnan Pu’er Tea Traceability Platform will play an important role in the adoption of blockchain in Yunnan Province’s tea industry, and beyond.
“This use case can be used as a reference for other regional premium agricultural products such as Yangcheng-Lake crab and Wuchang rice,” Chengcheng said.
The Pu’er Tea Traceability Platform will ensure strict supervision of a wider range of products to tackle counterfeiting and other factors battling the reputation of Yunnan tea.
In 2018, the Yunnan processed Pu’er tea clinched a production volume of 172,000 tons. Pu’er tea commands huge prestige and is viewed as luxury collectible consumable like wine.
At the Hong Kong auction in May of 2019, 7 bricks of old Pu’er vintage, weighing 2320 grams fetched 15.6+ million HKD circa $2.0 Million U.S. Dollars.
