Jack Dorsey, the founder and CEO of Twitter, a globally used micro-blogging platform, has recently given Square Crypto a special recognition for its major focus on lightning development.
Jack reacted to Square Crypto’s tweet about its mission and the introduction of the Lightning Development Kit (LDK).
The tweet reads thus:
“We’ve got the team. We’ve got the mission. We’ve got hit or miss tweets. And now it’s time to talk about what we’re building: Introducing the Lightning Development Kit, or LDK”
Jack Dorsey then replied to the tweet with a message that sounds like kudos to the capital project it’s building. He said, “Square Crypto is focusing on Lightning!”

What the Lightning Development Kit is about
According to the information made available by Square Crypto, instead of creating a standalone Lightning node, it is building a Lightning Development Kit (LDK), which enables app developers to conveniently create custom experiences.
The project will include API, demo apps, language bindings and any other feature that has the capability of making the integration of Lightning easy, secure, and configurable.
The API is connected to the Rust-Lightning project, offering clean interfaces and minimal system dependencies. In addition, Rust is one of the most secure system languages, which is capable of attracting competent developers that can sustain LDK independently.
Major Functions of LDK
- It adds Lightning capabilities to existing Bitcoin wallets – this makes the creation of a separate wallet for lightning unnecessary.
- LDK supports multi-device, multi-application access to a single wallet.
- It also allows wallets UX/security/privacy tradeoffs like external transaction signing and customizing their state backup to a cloud service.
Square Crypto then averred that these features listed have a core role in today’s Lightning infrastructure. It also added that LDK is tagged a big project because of those features.
